Because He did it ALL for us...on that Cross. Nothing left for us to do (as far as the relationship to God is concerned). We have been reconciled.
And then to make sure it sticks, and that we don't go mucking around inside of ourselves to try and believe it...He Baptizes us. Wow. What a God.
