Just read your post fresh from reading about Eugene Peterson's memoir (a writer I have a love-hate relationship with) where I read this great couple of sentences:
"Reading a memoir of Eugene Peterson is as reading in another world. A world bereft of 'how' but full to bursting of 'what.'"
Kind of what you're talking about perhaps?
